Opening of the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and ERCP Unit

The International Medical Center in Jeddah witnessed the opening of an integrated Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and ERCP Unit with the latest advanced micro-endoscopic devices that ensure an accurate diagnosis and access to many therapeutic options. This event represents a quantum leap in healthcare and will help through diagnosing and treating various diseases of the upper and lower digestive system and allow early detection of cancerous diseases.

Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

The upper gastrointestinal endoscopy deals with diagnosing and treating the diseases of the upper abdominal organs, including the oesophagus, pharynx, stomach and duodenum. It does so through the diagnoses of all kinds and stages of diseases, such as heartburn, stomach and duodenal ulcers, vomiting blood and all oesophageal and pharyngeal disorders up to identifying the causes of indigestion and detecting all types of infections and tumors.
This type of endoscopy can be used as well in treatment or post-diagnosis, including the management of gastrointestinal bleeding by injecting and banding oesophageal varices, the removal of foreign bodies and polyps in addition to taking tissue samples for microscopic examinations.

Lower Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

The lower gastrointestinal endoscopy deals with examining and diagnosing the large intestine and the lower abdomen area, most often in cases of anal bleeding or bloody stools. It helps determining the causes of constipation and diarrhea, identifying the causes of bleeding and diagnosing foreign bodies and polyps.
As for treatment, this method can be used to stop bleeding, remove foreign bodies and polyps and take tissue samples for examination.

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography helps examining and diagnosing bile duct diseases, most often in case of pain caused by bile duct obstruction, which can be treated by removing the causes of obstruction (stones or other tumors that must be removed) or expanding the bile ducts (in case of stenosis).
The opening of this new unit at the International Medical Center gives great hopes to patients. The unit - run under the supervision of highly-skilled specialists with advanced endoscopic devices - includes a complete nursing unit, a recovery unit as well as operating rooms and provides a high-quality service with closer appointments to save time and ensure a shorter waiting time for patients.

Endoscopic ultrasound

These endoscopes diagnose digestive system problems and tumors through an ultrasound-assisted endoscope, which leads to a more accurate diagnostic rate.

Enteroscopy

Small intestine endoscopes explore the small intestines and related hidden diseases. These devices have the potential to investigate 6 meters of the small intestines. Standard endoscopes cannot reach this length.
With the opening of the gastrointestinal endoscopy unit at the International Medical Center, patient experience has been positively impacted. The division includes a full nursing unit, a recovery unit and operating rooms, not to mention that the services provided are of the highest quality. Endoscopies are now carried out at an exceptional speed, greatly reducing patient waiting time, and all of this is done under the supervision of highly qualified specialists trained to masterfully use advanced endoscopes.
